Kanker: Naxalites are continuously surrendering in Chhattisgarh. Today, four Naxalites carrying a bounty of ₹2.3 million surrendered to the Kanker police. Those who surrendered include Naxalites from the North Bastar Division, DK Technical Team, and Gadchiroli Division. The surrenderees include two female and two male Naxalites.
Kanker SP Indira Kalyan Ellisela stated that the prominent Naxalite cadres who returned to the mainstream have expressed faith in the Indian Constitution and pledged to live a respectable and secure life within a democratic system. As part of the rehabilitation process, each cadre has been provided financial assistance of ₹50,000. Kanker SP Indira Kalyan Ellisela stated that, inspired by the Chhattisgarh government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy and under the Pune Margem Rehabilitation to Rejuvenate campaign, four Maoists surrendered to the Kanker police and BSF. The four Maoists carried a total bounty of ₹2.3 million. A female Naxalite was also involved in the Madanwada incident. On July 12, 2009, a major Naxalite incident in Madanwada resulted in the martyrdom of 29 brave soldiers, including the then Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Choubey.
These Naxalites surrendered
⦁ Kajal alias Rajita Vedva, a member of Company No. 10, carried a reward of ₹8 lakh (approximately $1.5 million). She joined the organization in 2021. In November 2024, a police-Naxalite encounter took place in Musafarsi village, in which this female Naxalite was involved.
⦁ Manjula alias Laxmi Potai, a member of the North Bastar Division’s technical team, carried a reward of ₹5 lakh (approximately $1.5 million). She had been active in the Naxalite organization since 2005. Between 2006 and 2025, she was involved in more than 16 Naxalite incidents.
⦁ PPCM Vilas alias Dhautu Usendi, a member of DK Technical Platoon No. 50, carried a reward of ₹5 lakh (approximately $5 million). He joined the Naxalite organization in 1995.
⦁ Badgaon LOS Deputy Commander ACM Ramsai alias Lakhan Marrapi carried a reward of ₹5 lakh on his head. He joined the Naxalite organization in 2004 and was involved in more than 42 Naxalite incidents between 2004 and 2025.
Many Naxalites Still in the Forests
The Kanker SP also stated that 20 to 25 Naxalites are still active in the Kanker forests. He appealed to the Naxalites to surrender in due course. The police officer stated that the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy is attracting Maoists. The families of those who surrendered also want them to live normal lives and integrate with society.
Appeal to Return to the Mainstream
The police officer urged Maoists to abandon their deceptive and violent ideologies and fearlessly return to the mainstream of society. Under the government’s Poona Margem policy, every possible facility is being provided to make the future of surrendered Naxalites safe, respectable and self-reliant.
