In compliance with the directives of the Uttarakhand High Court, the Dehradun administration has launched a comprehensive campaign to effectively ban single-use plastic. Under the instructions of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, 50 sector officers have been deployed to monitor all 100 wards of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation.
Key Measures and Arrangements:
• Strict Action: Intensive inspections will be conducted in industries and markets against the manufacturing, import, storage, sale, and use of banned plastic products.
• Nodal Officer Appointed: The Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) of State Taxes has been designated as the nodal officer to coordinate with all civic bodies.
• Rishikesh and Other Bodies: The Rishikesh Municipal Commissioner will serve as the nodal officer. The campaign will also be carried out in Mussoorie, Doiwala, Vikasnagar, and Selakui.
• Photographic Reporting: Mandatory reporting—including ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs (via Google)—has been instituted for cleanliness drives and confiscation actions.
An awareness campaign will be conducted in rural areas under the leadership of the District Panchayat Raj Officer.
