New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Peter Albers and Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras, demanding a 24-hour response to the massive disruptions to flight services that have stranded thousands of passengers across the country.
IndiGo’s operations have been severely disrupted for the past five days, with hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. IndiGo Airlines holds over 60% market share in the Indian aviation sector. In the notice sent to Albers and Porqueras, the regulator stated that widespread operational failures demonstrate significant lapses in planning, supervision, and resource management. Porqueras is IndiGo’s Accountable Manager and Chief Operating Officer. The regulator stated in a notice to Albers, “As CEO, you are responsible for the management of the airline, but you have failed in your duty to ensure timely arrangements for reliable operations and the provision of necessary amenities to passengers.”
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has asked Albers and Porqueras to respond within 24 hours. The notice states that the primary reason for the flight disruptions is the airline’s failure to make appropriate arrangements to meet the changed requirements for the smooth implementation of the approved Flight Duty Time Limitation Scheme.
A government official stated that on Saturday, Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu held an important meeting with Albers, along with senior officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, to review the situation and resolve the issues. The official also stated that based on the findings of the investigation committee, officials will take appropriate action regarding the IndiGo flight disruptions.
