Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat stated that the sugarcane procurement price is being continuously delayed. He quipped that it’s okay to exploit sugarcane, but it’s not good to exploit farmers. The hard work of sugarcane farmers is being squandered.
Harish Rawat stated that the procurement price for sugarcane wasn’t announced last year either. This year, farmers are forced to sell sugarcane at the old price. Farmers are still waiting for the new procurement price. Uttar Pradesh has announced the sugarcane procurement price.
Uttarakhand farmers are still waiting for the procurement price to be announced. Harish Rawat stated that the fair price for sugarcane should be ₹450 per quintal. He stated that he will observe a silent fast at his residence on November 27th to protest the government’s delay in announcing the sugarcane price.
