Mild tremors were felt in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, on Monday at 6:47 pm. People rushed out of their homes as soon as they felt the tremor. The earthquake’s intensity was measured at 3.4 on the Richter scale. The quake was located at a depth of five kilometers.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandkishore Joshi said that the epicenter of the earthquake was Chamoli. Since the tremor was mild, most people were unaware of it. There are no reports of damage.
Most of Uttarakhand is in Zones Four and Five.
According to seismologists from the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Uttarakhand is extremely vulnerable to earthquakes. Most of Uttarakhand’s areas are in Zones Four and Five. Therefore, frequent earthquakes are being witnessed.
