In Pithoragarh district, along with the youth, the elderly are also being found infected with HIV. According to the Tuberculosis Department, 35 HIV-infected elderly people aged 60 to 75 have been identified. Most of them are men. A review of the case histories of these infected individuals revealed that all contracted HIV through sexual intercourse.
Hiv is generally contracted by young people. In this border district, the virus has also affected elderly people over 60. According to the District Tuberculosis Department, 530 HIV-infected individuals have been identified in the district over the past nine years. Of these, 35 are between 60 and 75 years of age. Thirty-two are men and three are women, who are undergoing treatment. The department has determined the cause of their infection. These individuals contracted the virus through sexual intercourse with an HIV-infected individual.
14 Children Inherited HIV From Their Parents
According to the Health Department, 14 children have also been found infected in the district, ranging in age from four to 12 years. These children acquired HIV from their parents. Meanwhile, 478 patients acquired HIV through sexual intercourse, while 38 contracted it through other causes.
HIV testing is essential if these symptoms appear.
According to doctors, HIV testing is necessary if symptoms such as lung infection, persistent cough, fever and difficulty breathing, weight loss, sweating, blisters, vomiting and diarrhea, headaches, and pneumonia are present.
The department is continuously conducting tests to detect HIV infection. People should also exercise self-care to avoid it. Every patient should get tested if symptoms appear.
