New Delhi: 474 more parties have been removed from the list for violating norms and rules. Unrecognized parties have been removed from the list. A statement issued by the Election Commission on Friday said, “Another 474 registered unrecognized political parties have been removed from the list for violating other rules, including not contesting elections in the last six years.”
474 Parties Removed on September 18
In the first phase of this process, the Election Commission removed 334 registered unrecognized political parties (RUPPs) from the list on August 9. In the second phase today, the Election Commission removed 474 registered unrecognized political parties (RUPPs) from the list on September 18, based on their failure to participate in any election for six consecutive years. Thus, 808 RUPPs have been delisted in the last two months.
Six national and 67 state-level parties
The Election Commission reported that until recently, there were 2,520 RUPPs. After the delisting process, 2,046 RUPPs remain. These include six recognized national parties and 67 state-level parties.
