Trainee Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from the 2024 and 2026 batches were provided with detailed information regarding the state’s disaster management system and institutional framework at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA). During the session, the officers were familiarized with the Incident Response System (IRS), early warning mechanisms, relief and rescue procedures, and the functioning of SEOCs and DEOCs.
Prakash Chandra, Additional Chief Executive Officer (Administration), stated that the police force plays a frontline role at every stage of a disaster—preparedness, rapid response, and rehabilitation. He emphasized that the police’s mandate extends beyond merely maintaining law and order; it encompasses protecting human lives through swift evacuations, traffic management, relief distribution, and the containment of rumors.
DIG Rajkumar Negi, Additional Chief Executive Officer (Implementation), remarked that human sensitivity, discipline, and the ability to make quick decisions in the field are the keys to effective management. Senior officials from the department and all the trainee officers attended the program.
