Security arrangements have been tightened significantly in view of the proposed visit of the country’s Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, to Dehradun district on April 23. The police department has issued a full alert, and detailed guidelines have been released to ensure robust security arrangements.
During a special briefing held at the Police Lines on Tuesday, Inspector General (IG) Rajiv Swarup and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Singh Dobhal held a meeting with senior officers and police personnel deployed for duty. The meeting involved an in-depth discussion regarding security protocols and various logistical arrangements related to the Vice President’s visit.
The officials emphasized that no security lapse of any kind would be tolerated along the VVIP route or at the venue. All police personnel have been instructed to reach their respective duty posts at least three hours prior to the scheduled time. Furthermore, it has been made mandatory for all personnel to carry their identity cards and duty cards with them. Orders have also been issued to conduct a thorough inspection of the duty posts and their surrounding areas.
**Special Surveillance of Sensitive Locations**
Prioritizing security above all else, intensive searches for suspicious individuals will be conducted along the VVIP route and in the surrounding areas. High-rise buildings will be verified, and sensitive locations—such as water tanks and flyovers—will undergo meticulous inspection by the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Dog Squad. Entry to the venue will be permitted only to authorized individuals, following rigorous security checks.
**Crowd Management and Ban on Drones**
Special vigilance will also be exercised regarding crowd management during the event. Officials have issued directives to ensure that no stampede-like situation arises following the conclusion of the program. To this end, the police force has been instructed to remain on high alert. A complete ban on drone operations will remain in effect during the Vice President’s movement; no individual will be permitted to fly a drone. Furthermore, instructions have been issued to park all vehicles exclusively at designated parking areas and to ensure that main thoroughfares remain free-flowing for traffic.
**Verification of Outsiders and Suspicious Individuals**
All Station House Officers (SHOs) have been ordered to remain vigilant within their respective jurisdictions and to conduct special verification drives at hotels, *dharamshalas*, bus stands, and railway stations. The primary objective of this initiative is to identify and verify the credentials of outsiders and suspicious individuals, thereby preventing any untoward incidents. The administration and the police department are fully prepared to ensure the smooth and trouble-free conduct of the Vice President’s visit. Alongside stringent security arrangements, all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure that the visit concludes peacefully and successfully.
