To ensure the safety of all government and private schools in Uttarakhand against disasters, a specific ‘Disaster Management Plan’ will be prepared for each school. Following directives from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Disaster Management Minister Madan Kaushik, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman formulated this strategy in consultation with Education Department officials.
Key Points:
• Local Risk Assessment: Safety plans will be developed based on local geographical hazards—such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, cloudbursts, and fires—relevant to each school.
• Safe Evacuation and Infrastructure: Provisions will be established for evacuation routes, safe assembly points, and first-aid kits for every classroom, along with specific safety measures for children with disabilities.
• Formation of Specialized Teams: Dedicated teams will be formed for early warning, evacuation, first aid, fire safety, search and rescue, and psychosocial support; these teams will be led by students under the guidance of teachers.
• Mock Drills and Coordination: Mock drills will be conducted periodically, and emergency contact numbers will be prominently displayed.
