A major tragedy was averted today near the Santala Devi Temple in the Cantt police station area of Dehradun. Seven people became stranded on an island in the middle of the river after the water level rose suddenly due to heavy rainfall.
Upon receiving the information, an SDRF team from Sahastradhara, led by Sub-Inspector Rajbar Rana, immediately rushed to the scene. Conditions at the site were extremely challenging; the river’s current was strong, and the island was surrounded on all sides by surging waters. Without wasting any time, the SDRF personnel coordinated with the civil police and executed a high-risk rescue operation.
Despite the extremely slippery terrain and adverse weather, the team demonstrated a high level of professional competence and courage, successfully rescuing all seven individuals with the help of specialized equipment. This prompt and timely action prevented a major loss of life.
The rescued individuals include Mukesh (35), Sushil (36), Prem Kumar (27), Roshan Gupta (32), Rajiv (30), Pawan Singh (25), and Suraj Sahni (30). Local residents have highly praised the SDRF for this courageous effort
