Following a tragic bus accident recently in Dehradun’s Patel Nagar, a ‘Lead Agency’ team led by Uttarakhand’s Deputy Transport Commissioner, Mr. Shailesh Tiwari, inspected the accident site on June 24, 2026. It is noteworthy that on June 23, a city bus (UK 07PA-0287) lost control and mounted the pavement on the Rajpur-ISBT route, resulting in the deaths of two sleeping laborers and injuries to four others. The investigation team found that there is a bend near the accident site where the driver had lost control of the vehicle. The team is now conducting a thorough investigation into the precise causes of the accident and the driver’s medical history. In light of the incident, the team has suggested constructing safe, sheltered areas for laborers at locations such as Ghantaghar, Rispana, and Kanwali Road in Dehradun so that they do not congregate on the streets. Additionally, recommendations have been made for rigorous technical inspections of city buses, mandatory health check-ups for drivers, and training programs to sensitize them towards pedestrians. Expressing grief over the incident, Transport Minister Mr. Pradeep Batra has directed the immediate disbursement of accident relief funds to the victims.
