Patna: President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Chief Justice of Patna High Court Vipul M Pancholi as a judge of the Supreme Court. He will start his tenure in the Supreme Court from the date of joining.
Will be Chief Justice of India for one and a half years from 2031: Vipul M Pancholi’s tenure in the Supreme Court will be long. He will hold the post of Chief Justice of India from October 2031 to May 2033. With this appointment, the 34 approved posts in the Supreme Court have been fully filled.
Born in Ahmedabad: Chief Justice Vipul M Pancholi was born on 28 May 1968 in Ahmedabad. He obtained a BSc degree in Electronics from St. Xavier’s College.
Started practicing law in 1991: Pancholi started practicing as a lawyer in the Gujarat High Court in 1991. After this he also worked as a government advocate. He was appointed as a judge in the Gujarat High Court.
He became the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in July 2025: After Gujarat, he was transferred to Patna High Court. He took charge as a judge on 24 July 2023. In July this year itself, he was appointed Chief Justice of Patna High Court by the President.
