Palghar: A major accident took place in Virar East of Palghar district in Maharashtra late on Tuesday night. According to the information, a four-storey building collapsed here. There are reports of about 20 people being buried due to the collapse of a part of the building.
At the same time, as soon as the information about the accident was received, teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot and started relief and rescue work. According to the latest information, the NDRF team has rescued 11 people. While a search operation is being carried out for the trapped people. Unfortunately, a one-year-old child died while being taken to the hospital. Regarding the accident, officials said on Wednesday that a part of the four-storey building Ramabai Apartment in Virar East of Palghar district collapsed late on Tuesday night, killing two people and injuring many others. NDRF Deputy Commander Pramod Singh said that as soon as we got information about the incident at 12 o’clock in the night, two teams reached the accident site, one from Mumbai and the other from Palghar.
Locals estimate that about five more people may still be trapped. Rescue operations are expected to continue for the next two days. Singh said that the rescue operation will continue till tomorrow as heavy machinery cannot be used there due to the entrance being very narrow.
Emergency services, including the fire department and local police, along with NDRF teams are also actively working. Officials have put up barricades to control the crowd and are assessing the stability of nearby buildings. As a precaution, many residents living in nearby buildings have been temporarily evacuated.
Let us tell you, the incident happened around 12 o’clock at night, when the rear part of the building collapsed on a chawl next to it, due to which many people were buried under the debris. The rescued people are being treated in hospitals in Virar and Nalasopara, some of whom are in critical condition. Officials are engaged in ensuring that no one is trapped and they are trying to find out the cause of the accident.
