Hyderabad: The festive season is starting from next month. School students are eagerly waiting for Dussehra holidays. This year students will get long holidays. There will be a holiday for 9-13 days in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, many states including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar will have a holiday for 9-10 days during Navratri and Dussehra.
According to the report, the School Education Department of the Telangana government has decided to have a 13-day Dussehra holiday in all schools. The state schools will have Dussehra holidays from September 21 to October 3, which will be a total of 13 days. Schools will resume from October 4.
Schools will have to complete their Formative Assessment (FA)-2 examinations before the Dussehra holidays. After the resumption of classes, students will have to take the Summative Assessment (SA) – 1 exam from October 24 to 31. After the evaluation of answer sheets, the SA1 results will be declared by November 6.
According to the holiday calendar released by the state education departments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, most educational institutions will remain closed for at least nine days. Some areas will have even longer holidays. As per the schedule, schools and colleges in both the states will have holidays from September 24 to October 2, 2025. However, Christian minority institutions will have a short six-day holiday from September 27 to October 2. Some other institutions will have a holiday for nine days.
Long holidays in Telangana
The Dussehra holidays in Telangana will be longer than in Andhra Pradesh. Schools and colleges across the state will remain closed from September 21 to October 3, giving students a 13-day holiday. Apart from this, the Telangana government has announced a holiday on September 5 to commemorate Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the most important Hindu festivals. It is celebrated on the Dashami date of the month of Ashvin according to the Hindu calendar and marks the victory of good over evil, symbolized by Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. This year Vijayadashami falls on October 2, 2025.
Ganesh Chaturthi holiday on August 27
The Telangana government has officially confirmed a general holiday for all educational institutions, government offices and banks across the state on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. During this statewide holiday, students, teachers and government employees will be able to participate in the 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The festival will begin with the installation of Ganesh idols in homes and public pandals, followed by a round of prayers, community celebrations and cultural programs. All schools, colleges, government offices and banks in Telangana will remain closed on Wednesday, August 27.
