The fate of 32,580 candidates who contested in both the phases of three-tier panchayat elections in Uttarakhand will be decided today. State Election Commission Secretary Rahul Kumar Goyal said that the counting of votes of candidates contesting for 11,082 posts will start at 8 am on Thursday.
The fate of 17,829 candidates in the first phase and 14,751 candidates in the second phase will be decided. 15,024 personnel will be involved in the counting work. Security will be in the hands of 8,926 jawans.
Counting of votes will be done in 89 development blocks. Computers, internet, CCTVs have also been installed in all the development blocks. Along with the release of the election result, the complete result will also be made available on the commission’s website. In this, information about the total votes cast for the respective post as well as candidate-wise votes will also be available. Secretary Goyal said that like free and fair voting, counting of votes will also be done with complete transparency.
The counting of votes will be monitored by observers and zonal magistrates as well as police officers. In view of security, necessary barricading has been put up at all the counting centers. In both the phases of Panchayat elections, 69.16 percent voting took place. In this, 74.42 percent women and 64.23 percent male voters exercised their franchise.
Commission imposed ban on victory procession
State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar said that after the election results are declared, there will be a ban on taking out victory processions. In the written instructions sent to the districts, it has been asked to impose a complete ban on processions taken out in support of the candidates. A senior and experienced officer will be posted as Zonal Magistrate at the counting place. A police circle officer, Inspector in charge, SHO will be compulsorily deployed on duty at the counting center. No one will be allowed to enter the counting place without polling agent card
