Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a ‘language movement’ from Bolpur in Birbhum district in protest against the alleged attacks on Bengali-speaking migrants across the country. During this, she said that she would sacrifice her life but would not allow anyone to take away her language.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamata asked that when he (Modi) visits Arab countries, does he hug the Sheikh after asking him whether he is a Hindu or a Muslim. Addressing the people in Bolpur, the Chief Minister said that she does not want division on the basis of language. She said, “I am not against any language, I believe that unity in diversity is the foundation of our nation.”

Mamata said, “You can forget everything, but you should not forget your ‘asmita’, mother tongue and motherland.” She claimed that Bengali is the fifth most spoken language in the world and the second in Asia, yet Bengalis are being oppressed.
Attempt to implement NRC through the back door, Mamata alleges
Mamata questioned that if we can give shelter to 1.5 crore migrant workers in Bengal, why can’t you accept 22 lakh Bengali migrants working in other states. The Chief Minister, making an indirect reference to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in neighboring state Bihar, alleged that the Election Commission is trying to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) through the back door at the behest of the central government.
NRC will not be implemented in West Bengal, Mamata challenges the Center
She challenged the central government and said that she will neither allow NRC to be implemented in West Bengal nor will she allow any detention center to be set up. Targeting the Prime Minister, Mamata asked whether you asked the President of Maldives about his religion while hugging him. He alleged that the Centre did not pay Bengal its dues while it donated Rs 5,000 crore to the neighbouring country.
