Dehradun: Preparations are underway to end the mobile teams deployed in border areas in the State Tax Department. For this, the government has sought a proposal from the department. To prevent GST theft, a plan is being made to strengthen the audit wing in the department.
The department has deployed mobile teams in border areas to keep an eye on goods coming from outside the state without bills. At present, there are 11 mobile teams across the state. Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, State Tax Officer, Inspection level officers are appointed in these teams.
In the review of GST at the government level, it was found that there has not been a significant increase in revenue from the mobile team. The work that the mobile teams are currently doing can also be done from the divisional office. For this, there is a need to keep a separate mobile team. The services of the officers deployed in the mobile team can be used for the audit wing of the department and other work.
Finance Secretary Dilip Javalkar said, on the lines of other states, the audit wing will be strengthened in the State Tax Department. At present, GST recovery through the audit wing is very low. This can be increased. Apart from this, the department has been asked to send a proposal to end the mobile team. After this, it will be considered at the government level.
