To further strengthen disaster management in Uttarakhand during the monsoon season, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman has issued strict directives following instructions from Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami.
All major dams and barrages in the state are now mandatorily required to submit reports on their water levels, inflow, and discharge to the State Emergency Operation Centre (USDMA) daily at 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Additionally, prior notice must be given to the district administration regarding any proposed water release. This notification must clearly specify the areas likely to be affected and the anticipated rise in river water levels, ensuring that residents in downstream areas can be safeguarded in time.
The Secretary has directed all projects to share real-time data from river water level sensors and to strengthen early warning systems. Tehri Hydro Power Corporation has been instructed to increase the number of automatic weather stations to 25. Emphasis has also been placed on enhancing coordination among dams, conducting regular testing of sirens and sensors, and pre-positioning disaster management machinery in vulnerable areas.
