On Monday, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami paid a heartfelt tribute to Uttarakhand’s former Chief Minister and former Union Minister, Major General (Retired) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, at a memorial service held at the Late Harbansh Kapoor Memorial Community Hall in Garhi Cantt.
Key Highlights:
• **A Multi-faceted Personality:** CM Dhami stated that Khanduri Ji was an epitome of devotion to duty, simplicity, and integrity in public life. He dedicated his life to the service of the nation—serving as a disciplined soldier, a visionary administrator, and a champion of development.
• **Military and Political Contributions:** He was awarded the ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his gallantry and engineering feats during the 1971 war. Following his military service, he served as a Member of Parliament five times and strongly advocated for the demand for a separate state of Uttarakhand within the Parliament.
• **Pioneer of Good Governance:** His contributions remain unforgettable—whether in accelerating the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ and the ‘PM Gram Sadak Yojana’ during his tenure as the Union Minister for Road Transport, or in ushering in good governance and transparency during his time as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
The memorial service was attended by Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri, former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, and Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, alongside numerous spiritual leaders and distinguished citizens.
