A Cabinet Sub-committee is set to be constituted to address the matter of granting promotional pay scales to teachers in the state’s non-governmental schools by factoring in their prior periods of unpaid service. This proposal received approval during the Dhami Cabinet meeting. The Sub-committee will examine the court’s verdict on the matter and submit its report to the government.
Teachers currently employed in non-governmental secondary schools and junior high schools have been demanding that their periods of unpaid service be recognized for the purpose of selection-grade promotions, promotional pay scales, and the Old Pension Scheme. Previously, some teachers had approached the courts regarding this issue. According to Mahadev Maithani, the Provincial General Secretary of the Non-Government Secondary Teachers’ Association, while some teachers received these benefits following the court’s orders, others were denied them.
For a considerable period, the Association has been demanding that the unpaid service periods of *all* teachers be consolidated and duly recognized for the purpose of granting selection-grade promotions and promotional pay scales. The Association’s Provincial General Secretary further stated that teachers who have been working on an *ad hoc* basis for several years should be regularized. Furthermore, he demanded that PTA teachers—who currently receive an honorarium—be granted *ad hoc* appointments, and that teachers currently working without any remuneration be brought under the honorarium-based category.
