New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in West Asia at a meeting held late Sunday night. The committee directed all relevant departments to take necessary steps to assist Indian citizens affected by the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran.
The CCS also stressed the need for an early cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
An official statement said the CCS met to review the evolving situation in West Asia and was briefed on the current situation, including the February 28 airstrikes in Iran and subsequent Iranian attacks on several Gulf countries.
The statement said the CCS expressed serious concern over the safety of the large Indian expatriate community in the region. The CCS also reviewed the difficulties faced by Indian travelers and students appearing for scheduled examinations, as well as the significant impact on regional security and economic and commercial activities.
The statement said, “The CCS directed all concerned departments to take necessary and possible steps to assist Indian citizens affected by these incidents. It emphasized the importance of an early cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.”
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Principal Secretaries to the Prime Minister PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, CDS General Anil Chauhan, Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also attended the CCS meeting.
