Port Blair: A Pawan Hans helicopter crash-landed in the sea near Mayabunder in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday. Seven people, including two crew, were aboard. All were rescued safely. Officials said the helicopter experienced a problem during landing around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and made a short landing near Mayabunder.
Officials said, “The helicopter took off from Sri Vijayapuram (formerly Port Blair) at around 8:45 a.m. and crashed into the sea around 9:30 a.m. Initial investigations revealed that there was some technical fault and the pilot made a crash-landing in the sea.”
A Pawan Hans spokesperson said, “Around 9:30 am today, a Pawan Hans helicopter made a short landing near Mayabunder in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The helicopter had taken off from Port Blair with two crew members and five passengers. All have been rescued and are safe. No injuries have been reported.”
The spokesperson further said, “All necessary safety protocols were followed, and authorities ensured the safety of the crew and passengers.”
According to reports, the passengers on board the plane included three men, one woman, a child, and two pilots. Passengers Rajita Devi and her children, Kamal Choudhary Das, Sipra Saha, and Nambi Amma have been admitted to Dr. RP Hospital in Mayabunder, where they are receiving treatment. Local authorities said the pilot is also safe.
Crash Landing Investigation Launched
A Civil Aviation Department official said an investigation has been launched into the crash landing. “There were a total of seven people on board, including the pilot,” the official said. Everyone is safe, and we still need to take the pilot’s statement. All the injured are being treated at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Hospital in Mayabunder. We are trying to bring the injured to Sri Vijayapuram.”
Air Ambulance Aircraft Crash in Chatra
Earlier, an air ambulance aircraft crashed in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, killing seven people. The Beechcraft C90 air ambulance, owned by Redbird Airways Private Limited, was flying from Ranchi to Delhi and crashed in Simaria, a forested area in Chatra district. Captain Vivek Vikas Bhagat, Captain Savrajdeep Singh, Dr. Vikas Kumar Gupta, Sachin Kumar Mishra, Sanjay Kumar, Archana Devi, and Dhuru Kumar died in the crash.
