Mumbai: Sunetra Ajit Pawar today assumed charge of the ministry as Maharashtra’s first female Deputy Chief Minister. This day marked a golden milestone in Maharashtra’s political history.
Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dhananjay Munde, along with her son Parth Pawar, were present as she took her seat in the Deputy Chief Minister’s office.
This moment marked a poignant transition for the state leadership. Sunetra Pawar will attend the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. This is the first cabinet meeting since Ajit Pawar’s death. She will also participate in the Business Advisory Committee meeting for the budget session on February 23.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash in Baramati, Pune district, on January 28. Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as the state’s first female Deputy Chief Minister on January 31. She has been given charge of the Excise, Sports, Minority Welfare, and Auqaf departments, and has also been appointed the Guardian Minister of Beed and Pune.
She arrived in Mumbai from Pune early Tuesday morning and prayed at the Siddhivinayak Temple at Chaityabhoomi in the Dadar area and the BR Ambedkar Memorial. It is being said that her appointment as Deputy CM will give a new direction to women’s empowerment. Sunetra Pawar is known as an experienced and influential leader in the state’s social affairs. There is a growing opinion in political circles that her decision to become Deputy CM will strengthen women’s representation.
Interestingly, while many leaders have held the position of Deputy Chief Minister since Maharashtra’s formation, this is the first time a woman has been given this responsibility. Therefore, this appointment is considered significant not only from a political but also a social perspective. This moment will be inspiring for women, young women, and a new generation of leadership in the state.
Upon assuming office, Sunetra Pawar interacted with administrative officials and employees, emphasizing the importance of working in coordination. It is believed that this political journey of Sunetra Pawar will establish a new role model for women’s leadership in the state and will prove to be a significant milestone in Maharashtra’s development.
