Dehradun: Numerous schemes are being implemented in Uttarakhand to increase the income of fish farmers. Recently, the state government launched a Trout Promotion Scheme at a cost of Rs 170 crore. This scheme will provide various facilities to fish farmers.
In this regard, the Fisheries Department is focusing on providing a larger market for the state’s fish farmers. As part of this effort, the Fisheries Department will soon be sending Uttarakhand’s trout fish to Dubai. The department is currently working on obtaining the necessary food safety and other certificates.
30.70 tons of trout fish already supplied to ITBP: It is worth noting that the Fisheries Department is already supplying trout fish to the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police). In the last 15 months, 30.70 tons of trout fish have been supplied to the ITBP. Meanwhile, trout fish production in Uttarakhand is continuously increasing, creating a need for larger markets.
Efforts to supply trout fish to Dubai: This is why the state government is also in talks with the Indian Army, in addition to the ITBP, to supply them with trout fish. Taking another step forward, the state government has decided to supply trout fish to Dubai. Approximately 20 tons of trout fish will be sent to Dubai: There is a high demand for trout fish in Dubai. Therefore, in the first phase, approximately 20 tons of trout fish will be sent to Dubai. The Indian government believes that supplying trout fish to Dubai will not only provide better prices for fish farmers but will also encourage more farmers to take up trout fish farming.
Exporting trout from Uttarakhand to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) requires extensive paperwork. This includes obtaining food safety and other necessary certificates. This is why the Fisheries Department has begun the process of completing all the necessary paperwork and obtaining the required certificates so that the export of Uttarakhand’s trout fish to Dubai can begin as soon as possible. Uttarakhand’s trout fish was very popular at Gulfood: Gulfood was held in Dubai from January 26 to 30 this year, where the Uttarakhand Fisheries Department showcased Uttarakhand trout fish. During Gulfood, the people of Dubai were very impressed with the Uttarakhand trout.
Several financiers from the United Arab Emirates contacted the Fisheries Department officials and requested a supply of trout fish to Dubai. Following this, the Uttarakhand government is now preparing to export trout fish to Dubai. Initially, it has been decided to export 20 tons of trout fish. The export volume will be increased based on demand.
Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions are ideal for trout farming: Due to Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions, fisheries can become a better source of employment for the local people. This is why the Uttarakhand government is promoting trout fish production, as it will greatly benefit fish farmers and there is a high demand for this fish.
Trout fish farming is being done in these districts of Uttarakhand: Currently, trout fish are being produced in various districts of the state, including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Tehri, and in the mountainous regions of Dehradun district. Efforts are also underway to start trout fish production in Champawat, Nainital district, and other mountainous regions.
Trout fish are farmed in the pristine water streams of Uttarakhand. This is why the taste of this fish is considered superior, leading to high demand. Currently, 710 metric tons of trout fish are being produced in 1,625 raceways in the state. “Last month, Gulfood was organized in Dubai, where the Uttarakhand Fisheries Department showcased Uttarakhand trout fish. The people there greatly appreciated the Uttarakhand trout. Consequently, the paperwork for exporting trout fish to Dubai is currently underway. This export will significantly benefit fish farmers. Furthermore, after the export process to Dubai begins, initiatives will be taken to export trout fish to other countries as well,” said Saurabh Bahuguna, Fisheries Minister of Uttarakhand.
