Dibrugarh: Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Dibrugarh late Thursday night for a two-day visit to Assam. According to reports, the special Border Security Force (BSF) plane carrying the Home Minister landed at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Airport in Mohanbari, Dibrugarh, around midnight. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed Amit Shah at the airport.
On Saturday, the Home Minister will lay the foundation stone for the new Assam Legislative Assembly building and the Wildlife Research Institute in Dibrugarh. The new assembly complex will be equipped with modern facilities. The Wildlife Research Institute, whose foundation stone will be laid, is expected to play a crucial role in the scientific research, conservation, and protection of Assam’s rich biodiversity. The Home Minister will also inaugurate the first phase of the Khanikar Stadium project to boost sports infrastructure in South Assam. This event will take place this morning in Khanikar, Dibrugarh. Following this, Amit Shah will depart for Dhemaji to attend the 10th Mising Cultural Festival in Kareng Chapori. This festival is organized annually by the Mising community and celebrates the tribe’s rich cultural heritage through traditional dance, music, art, costumes, and local cuisine. In the evening, Shah will leave for Guwahati and then proceed to the state BJP headquarters. Upon arrival, he will meet with party officials and workers. The discussions are expected to focus on organizational issues, the upcoming political agenda, and strengthening the party’s grassroots presence in the state. It is worth noting that Assam is scheduled to hold assembly elections this year, and the Bharatiya Janata Party is actively preparing for them. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also gearing up to retain power. He has stated that he will expel illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the state at all costs and has been launching sharp attacks on the opposition Congress party.
