Amritsar (Punjab): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah participated in a special program in Amritsar on Friday. Speaking to the media there, he said, “I have heard a lot about Amritsar, but today I got the opportunity to visit Amritsar for the first time. I had heard that the water of Amritsar is very special, and today I also got a chance to drink it.”
Omar Abdullah said, “The central government has removed Article 370, but still the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has not improved. There has been no change in violence, terrorism, and unemployment. Terrorism has had a major impact on tourism throughout the state. The Pahalgam attack and the subsequent blasts in Delhi, which claimed innocent lives, are affecting tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourism is slowly starting to revive.”
He added, “The central government is making many changes to the MGNREGA scheme and changing its name. Removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name and renaming it VB-G RAM G is also wrong. Now the states have to manage the funds themselves, a burden that the central government has placed on them.” Therefore, we have objections regarding both these issues.”
Omar said that attempts are being made to separate Jammu and Kashmir as a distinct state. The central government wants to sink the ship of Jammu and Kashmir. The ship of Ladakh has already sunk. Now, drug use has increased in Jammu and Kashmir. Drugs have become a major problem in Jammu and Kashmir.
The changes the central government is making to MGNREGA are wrong. By changing the VB-G RAM G scheme, the central government has shifted the financial burden onto the states. The center has weakened the very purpose of the MGNREGA scheme. Earlier, all the funds for MGNREGA came from the central government, but now the center has removed this burden from its shoulders and placed a significant portion of the financial burden on the state governments. – Omar Abdullah
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sadness over the closure of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, which was the only medical college in Jammu and Kashmir. Reacting to the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, Omar Abdullah said that the security of minorities is the responsibility of the Bangladeshi government.
He said that the relations between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are good. Regardless of which government is in power here, the relations are good, both personally and politically.
