New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that nearly ₹2,000 crore has been returned to its rightful owners so far under the ‘Your Money, Your Rights’ initiative launched by the government in October 2025 to help citizens recover their forgotten financial assets.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that this movement was launched with the aim of ensuring that every citizen can get back what is rightfully theirs.
PM Modi said, “This is an opportunity to turn forgotten financial assets into a new opportunity. Join the ‘Your Money, Your Rights’ movement!”
The Prime Minister emphasized that a large portion of public money remains unclaimed in various financial institutions across the country.
Indian banks have unclaimed funds worth ₹78,000 crore, while insurance companies have approximately ₹14,000 crore unclaimed. Furthermore, mutual fund companies have unclaimed funds worth approximately ₹3,000 crore and dividends worth ₹9,000 crore unclaimed.
The Prime Minister said, “These facts have shocked many people. After all, these assets represent the hard-earned money and investments of countless families.”
To make the reclaim process easy and transparent, the government and regulatory bodies have created dedicated portals to help people track and claim their funds.
These include the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the UDGAM portal for unclaimed bank deposits and balances, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the Insurance Bharosa portal for unclaimed insurance policy proceeds, and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
The MITRA portal and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs portal are for unclaimed funds in mutual funds. The IEPFA portal is for unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares.
PM Modi informed that facilitation camps have been organized in 477 districts across both rural and urban areas of the country, with a focus on remote areas, to ensure maximum coverage and reach. Through the coordinated efforts of the government, regulatory bodies, banks, and other financial institutions, approximately ₹2,000 crore has already been returned to citizens.
He encouraged the use of dedicated portals and facilitation camps to claim what is rightfully theirs.
He said, “Act now to get what is yours and turn a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity. Your money is yours. Let us ensure it is returned to you. Let us all work together to build a transparent, financially strong, and inclusive India!”
