In line with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s announcement number 311/2025, Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar held a detailed review meeting of the Health Department today. The meeting thoroughly discussed all aspects related to the development of the Government Nursing College at Sursinghdhar in Tehri district into a postgraduate college. Inquiring from officials about the progress made so far, the available infrastructure, the status of financial and administrative approvals, and the findings of the inspection report, Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar stated that the timely implementation of the Chief Minister’s announcements is the department’s top priority. He directed that this project be completed on a priority basis to strengthen nursing education, prepare specialized nursing manpower, and further strengthen health services in the hilly districts. The Health Secretary urged the government to expedite the necessary formalities and ensure the proposal is processed on time.
*Sursinghdhar Nursing College granted postgraduate recognition*
Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar stated that in compliance with Chief Minister’s Proclamation No. 311/2025, the government issued financial and administrative approvals for the proposal on August 14, 2025. The government has issued clear instructions that Sursinghdhar Nursing College, located in the Chamba area of โโTehri district, has been granted PG college status. All formalities for this have been completed. He added that a departmental letter dated November 12, 2025, constituted an inspection committee to assess the status of the Government Nursing College, New Tehri. It was instructed to physically verify the campus and submit its report.
*Positive Report Received After Inspection*
Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar stated that the committee conducted a site inspection of the Government Nursing College, New Tehri, on November 14, 2025, and submitted a comprehensive report. The report stated that the college campus contained adequate buildings, classrooms, laboratories, a library, a multipurpose hall, and an M.Sc. The additional classrooms required for nursing education are sufficiently available. The committee also noted that the college has access to clinical postings at the District Hospital, Bouradi (100 beds) and the Community Health Center, Narendranagar (50 beds), which fully meet the mandatory training requirements. The inspection also revealed that the institute currently has a total area of โโ71,900.33 square feet, including 32,452.97 square feet of academic space and 39,447.36 square feet of hostel space. The committee found the entire infrastructure to be in accordance with standards and suitable for operating a PG college. Following this, it has been granted PG recognition.
*Recommendation for 15 seats for MSc Nursing Program*
Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that based on the inspection, the committee has recommended 15 new seats for starting the MSc Nursing program at the Government Nursing College, New Tehri. The committee has clarified in its report that the institute has the necessary resources, staff, classrooms and training infrastructure to start high level nursing education, which will significantly strengthen the quality of nursing education and health services in the hilly region. He said that this step towards fulfilling the Chief Minister’s announcement will prove to be a major achievement in providing high level nursing education and preparing expert health human resources in the Tehri region. Dr. AK Arya, Director Medical Education, Dr. Ravindra Singh Bisht, Additional Director Medical Education, Manisha Dhyani, Registrar and other senior officials of the department were present in this review meeting.
