Panaji (Goa): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Sri Sansthan Gokarna Jivottam Math in South Goa district on Thursday, a representative of the Math said.
Prime Minister Modi will arrive at the venue at 3:45 p.m. Srinivas Dempo, chairperson of the Math’s central committee, stated that a special helipad has been built on the Math’s premises. He added that the Prime Minister will unveil the 77-foot statue of Lord Ram. Goa Public Works Department Minister Digambar Kamat said that the statue was created by sculptor Ram Sutar, who designed the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
The minister said that it will be the tallest statue of Lord Ram in the world. Dempo said that PM Modi will visit the temple at the Math before addressing a public meeting. He said that Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Union Minister Shripad Naik, along with state cabinet ministers, will be present at the event. Several programs are being held from November 27th to December 7th to mark the 550th anniversary of the monastery tradition. Dempo said that the monastery in Goa was built 370 years ago in Partagal village, Canacona (South Goa district).
He said that several programs are planned these days, and 7,000 to 10,000 people are expected to visit the monastery site each day. Kamat said that the monastery site, which has served as a spiritual center for centuries, has been completely renovated and given a modern look.
