New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to the capital, Delhi, on Monday morning after completing his visit to South Africa for the G-20 Summit. He described his visit as a success. During his official visit to Johannesburg on November 22-23, PM Modi held talks with several world leaders.
Despite the US boycott, leaders approved the G-20 Declaration. This signals a renewed unity on issues such as development and climate change in a multipolar world. The participating countries approved a 122-point document focused on global equity, multilateral restructuring, and sustainable development.
One of his notable bilateral meetings was with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where both sides adopted the India-Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Terrorism Financing and reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism.
Sharing details of the meeting, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X that the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, technology, AI, defense, security, space, research, exploration, and culture.
He said the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 and noted PM Melania’s strong support for an AI summit in India in 2026. PM Modi also addressed the third session of the G20 Summit, which focused on ensuring a just and equitable future for all.
In a post on X, he said the discussion focused on critical sectors such as essential minerals and AI. He emphasized that India believes in promoting human-centric, global, and open-source technology, rather than finance-driven or exclusive.
He emphasized India’s vision for AI, which is based on equitable access for all, population-level skill development, and responsible deployment. He stated that India’s AI mission aims to ensure that the benefits of AI reach every region and language, and called for a global agreement to prevent the misuse of AI, including deepfakes, crime, and terrorism. Looking to the future, PM Modi said India is preparing to host an AI Impact Summit in February 2026 under the theme “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya.”
He emphasized the need to build capabilities for tomorrow rather than focusing on today’s jobs and expressed hope that the G20 will create a global framework for talent mobility in the coming years to foster innovation and benefit young people around the world.
