In view of this year’s bumper paddy production in Uttarakhand, the state government has written to the central government, requesting an increase in the paddy procurement target from the current 7.50 lakh metric tons.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rekha Arya stated that 4.99 lakh metric tons of paddy has been procured in the state so far, and approximately 2.70 lakh farmers have benefited from the minimum support price. Paddy is being procured from farmers at 750 procurement centers across the state.
Rekha Arya stated that this year, the per hectare paddy yield in Udham Singh Nagar has been significantly higher than the established standard, and the District Magistrate had informed the department about this in a letter.
In view of this, the Cabinet Minister directed departmental officials to contact the central government and try to increase the target.
Following this, on Wednesday, the Food and Civil Supplies Secretary and Fanai
wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution in the central government, requesting an increase in the state’s paddy procurement target by 2 lakh metric tons
