New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has granted permission to Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and accused in the money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Scam, to renew his passport. Special Judge Jitendra Singh issued the order. On June 4th, the court granted Kejriwal’s passport renewal, but the Passport Department refused, citing the need for permission to leave India.
After the Passport Department refused to grant the renewal, Kejriwal filed a fresh application. The application sought permission to leave the country in addition to the passport renewal. During the hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer stated that Kejriwal’s passport had expired in 2018. On July 10, 2024, the Rouse Avenue Court took cognizance of the ED’s charge sheet and ordered Kejriwal to appear before it. On May 17, 2024, the ED filed a seventh supplementary charge sheet naming the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal as accused.
The ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21, 2024. On May 10, 2024, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1, 2024. Kejriwal surrendered on June 2, 2024. Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26, 2024. On September 13, 2024, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal regular bail in the CBI case. Prior to that, the Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal interim bail in the ED case on July 12, 2024.
