Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park, one of India’s most iconic wildlife destinations, has officially opened its elephant safari for the 2025-26 tourist season. A grand opening took place on Saturday in the park’s Bagori and Burapahar ranges, marking the start of another exciting season for wildlife lovers.
Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, inaugurated the elephant safari in the Bagori range and announced that the safari has also begun in Burapahar. Elephant safaris will begin in the Central Range at Kohora on November 2nd, allowing tourists to experience all three major ranges of the park. Dr. Ghosh said, “Elephant safaris offer tourists the opportunity to observe wildlife up close, including the famous one-horned rhinoceros. It is one of Kaziranga’s most popular attractions.”
Tourist Crowds in Kaziranga
A large number of tourists arrived from across the country on the first day. Many expressed excitement and delight at seeing rhinos, deer, and other wildlife up close.
A tourist from Hyderabad said, “This is our first trip, and it was an amazing experience. We saw many rhinos and deer – my child especially enjoyed the ride.”
Another tourist from Gujarat said, “We arrived at 5 a.m. for the elephant safari. Yesterday we took a jeep safari, and today’s experience was equally exciting. Seeing rhinos and wild boars so closely is truly special.”
Revised Elephant Safari Rates
With the new season approaching, the state Forest and Environment Department has revised safari seat rates in Assam’s national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
For Indian tourists: ₹1,200 per seat
For foreign tourists: ₹2,000 per seat
Furthermore, the Kaziranga Forest Division has clarified that domestic tourists will have to pay ₹100 as an entry fee and ₹50 to the Kaziranga Staff Welfare Society – bringing the total fee to ₹1,350 per seat.
Foreign tourists will have to pay an additional ₹650 as an entry fee and ₹50 as a welfare fee, bringing their total fee to ₹2,700 per seat.
With the reopening of elephant safaris in the Bagori, Kohora, and Burapahar ranges, Kaziranga National Park is poised for another vibrant season of eco-tourism, offering visitors a rare opportunity to witness Assam’s rich wildlife heritage up close.
