New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday said that the first randomisation of EVMs-VVPATs for the first phase of Bihar assembly elections has been completed.
“As per the instructions of the Election Commission, the District Election Officers (DEOs) of all the 18 districts of Bihar have completed the first randomisation of the successful EVM-VVPATS in the First Level Scrutiny (FLC) on October 11, where elections are to be held in the first phase,”the Election Commission said on Monday.”
It said the first randomization was done through the EVM Management System (EMS) by the DEO in the presence of representatives of national and state-level recognised political parties.
The ECI said that after the first randomisation, a total of 54,311 ballot units (BU), 54,311 control units (CU) and 58,123 VVPATs were randomly allocated to 121 assembly constituencies with 45,336 polling stations.
Constituency-wise lists of random EVMs and VVPATs were shared with representatives of all national and regional political parties at their respective district headquarters.
The Election Commission said that these EVMs and VVPATs will be stored in the respective Assembly Strong Room in the presence of representatives of national and state-level political parties.
After finalizing the list of contesting candidates, the list of first random EVMs and VVPATs will also be shared with all candidates contesting elections.
Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
On the other hand, the formula of seat sharing in the NDA has been fixed for the Bihar elections. The BJP and the JD(U) got 101-101 seats, while the LJP got 29, RLM got 6 and HAM 6 seats. At the same time, the exercise for seats in the Mahagathbandhan is going on.
Notably, in the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP and JD(U)-led NDA won 125 seats. The RJD-Congress-led grand alliance won 110 seats. The other parties won 8 seats. The RJD became the single largest party by winning 75 assembly seats. The BJP won 74 seats and the JD(U) 43 seats.
