New Delhi: Applications and updates for a new Aadhaar card will be free, but only for certain individuals. Two categories have been established for this purpose. The first category is for children aged five to seven, and the second category is for those aged 15 to 17. In fact, a child Aadhaar card is issued for children under the age of five. Applying for an Aadhaar card for children over the age of seven will incur a fee, or even require an update.
The child Aadhaar card is blue in color. Children’s biometrics are not taken; only their photo is captured. It is issued based on the Aadhaar card of one of the parents. However, when the child turns five, their Aadhaar card must be updated.
For children above the age of five, an iris scan and fingerprints are taken, meaning their biometric data is stored. This process also involves taking a photo again. Their Aadhaar card is then generated. The government has made this update completely free. The entire process is repeated even when the child turns 15 years old. No fee will be charged for this service, meaning both services will be provided free of charge.
The Aadhaar card is issued by the UIDAI. Any newborn can also be issued an Aadhaar card. Many hospitals have launched this service. Children born there are registered, and an Aadhaar registration slip is provided along with the birth certificate issued by them. Aadhaar cards for children between the ages of five and 15 are generated in the same manner as adult Aadhaar cards. After entering their biometric details, the process proceeds.
To obtain an Aadhaar card for children under five years old, you need two documents: the birth certificate and the Aadhaar card of one of the parents.
The documents required for children aged five to 15 years include a birth certificate, along with either a school ID card, a parent’s Aadhaar card, or an identity card issued for the child by the Tehsildar on their letterhead.
Why is the Aadhaar card important? The Aadhaar card is an identity card. It contains your biometric details. The government can obtain information about each Aadhaar card holder. You can use it anywhere you need to verify any document. Nowadays, all services, including opening a bank account, obtaining a driver’s license, applying for a cylinder, and so on, are linked to Aadhaar.
