Gurdaspur: Punjab is currently battling a terrible flood. Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers are in spate due to heavy rains and water released from Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir. The crisis has increased after water was released from Bhakra Nangal Dam. All 23 districts of the state are affected by floods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Punjab.
After this he reached Gurdaspur. Here he talked to the flood-affected people. Met the NDRF and SDRF teams and got information about the rescue operations. After this, he will hold a review meeting with the officials. According to sources, the Chief Secretary of Punjab will present a report regarding the flood. Let us tell you that the Punjab government has demanded Rs 80 thousand crore from the Center for flood relief.
Announcement of financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore
After taking stock of the flood situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore for Punjab. This amount is in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore already present in the state treasury. The PMO said in a statement that the second installment of SDRF and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be released in advance. The statement said that the Prime Minister stressed the need to adopt a multi-pronged approach to help the entire region and its people. On Prime Minister Modi’s visit to flood-affected Punjab, BJP leader Vijay Sampla said, “Residents of entire Punjab are working to help each other. Seeing the situation here, Prime Minister Modi first sent Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chauhan here. He came here and took stock of the situation. Only after his report, Prime Minister Modi decided to come here and take stock of the situation. Only after this he will take any decision for Punjab.” Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached Delhi after attending the SCO summit in China, spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the phone and discussed the situation arising out of rain and floods in the state. PM Modi assured the state of all possible help and cooperation. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the flood-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh today. The Prime Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 1500 crore for Himachal Pradesh.
More than 20 lakh people affected:
According to government data, 3,87,898 people have become homeless in 2050 villages of 23 flood-affected districts of the state. More than 20 lakh people have been affected. The Punjab government has so far evacuated 22,938 people from the flood-affected areas of the state to safer places. Apart from this, the state government has opened 219 relief camps. 5404 people have been accommodated in these camps. A total of 176980.05 hectares of crop area has been affected so far in many districts of the state.
