Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged in the joint mountaineering expedition team comprising members from the Indian Coast Guard and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling. Led by Colonel Rajnish Joshi, the team created history by successfully summiting Mount Mukut East, which stands at an altitude of 7,045 meters. This marks the first successful expedition to a peak exceeding 7,000 meters in the history of the Indian Coast Guard.
As part of this expedition—dedicated to the 25 glorious years of Uttarakhand’s statehood—the team unfurled a massive 2,500-square-foot flag at the summit. Commending the team’s indomitable courage and discipline, the Chief Minister stated that this achievement is a source of pride for the entire nation.
The expedition was conducted from September 15 to October 9 as a preparatory step for the Mount Everest expedition proposed for 2027, which will mark the completion of 50 years of the Coast Guard.
