Tehri: A truck carrying Kanwar pilgrims overturned between Jajal and Fakot on the Rishikesh-Gangotri Highway in Tehri district. So far three people have died in the accident, while 16 passengers have been injured. A total of 19 Kanwar pilgrims were travelling in the truck, who were going from Rishikesh to Gangotri.
District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt informed that one person died on the spot in the accident, while two other passengers were found buried under the truck. Four seriously injured passengers have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. Eight people are being treated at Narendra Nagar Community Health Center and one person is being treated at Primary Health Center Fakot.
Relief and rescue operations were started immediately after receiving information about the accident. According to District Magistrate Tehri, the truck went out of control and overturned about two kilometers ahead of the bay. The injured passengers were taken to the hospital with the help of 108 ambulance service.
CM gave instructions for relief and rescue on war footing
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep grief over the accident and directed the officials to provide immediate and better medical facilities to the injured. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the administration on a war footing so that all the passengers can be evacuated safely.
