Kathua: After Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, now Kathua district has come under the grip of natural disaster. At least seven people died and five others were injured in two separate incidents of cloudburst and landslide in Kathua district in the wee hours of Sunday. A massive relief and rescue operation was launched.
A village was destroyed due to cloudburst last night. Due to this, 7 people died while 5 others were injured. A relief and rescue operation was launched by the administration. The injured were admitted to the nearest hospital.
The deceased have not been identified. Officials gave information about the incident on Sunday. According to a PTI report, the road to the village was blocked due to cloudburst in Jod Ghati village of Rajbagh in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
Along with this, there has been heavy damage to the land and property. After much effort, a joint team of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and started working along with local volunteers.
According to officials, bodies of four persons have been recovered so far, while six others were rescued in injured condition and are being taken to hospital. As per reports, landslides also occurred in Bagar and Changda villages under Kathua police station area and Dilwan-Hutli under Lakhanpur police station area, but no major damage was reported.
Officials said that due to heavy rains, water level of most of the water bodies has risen rapidly and Ujh river is flowing near the danger mark. The district administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and has requested people to stay away from water bodies for their safety.
CM expresses grief over loss of lives, directs immediate relief measures
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed the administration to take relief, rescue and evacuation measures to ensure safety of people in cloudburst and landslide-hit Kathua district. The Chief Minister has expressed grief over the tragic loss of life and damage caused by the landslide. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured all necessary assistance.
The Chief Minister directed the administration to take immediate relief, rescue and evacuation measures to ensure the safety and assistance of the affected families.
Let us tell you that earlier there was a cloudburst in Kishtwar. The relief and rescue operation was not even over here that in the meantime another incident of cloudburst came to the fore. 60 people died in the Kishtwar accident while 60 to 70 people are reported missing. The search for the missing people is going on. At the same time, all the big leaders including PM Modi, Chief Minister expressed grief over this incident and learned about the relief and rescue.
LG expressed grief over the loss of life and property
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday expressed grief over the deaths in the landslide caused by rain in Kathua district and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He said that Home Minister Amit Shah was informed about the rescue and relief operations.
