On the electoral front, Congress President Ganesh Godiyal is shouldering the responsibilities of a captain—albeit without a team. While the Congress party asserts that it will return to power in the 2027 elections, Godiyal has been managing operations without a functioning Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for the past six months. A state of confusion regarding the new responsibilities to be assigned to outgoing office-bearers within the State Executive has resulted in a visible decline in the vigor of organizational activities.
Having been out of power in state politics since 2017, the Congress is currently striving and asserting its intent to make a comeback in the 2027 elections; however, at the organizational level, its electoral strategy lacks the necessary sharpness and momentum. According to political experts, a cohesive team is indispensable for an organization to perform effectively; a captain, acting alone, cannot lead a team to victory.
**A Similar Situation Faced by Karan Mahara Previously**
To effectively wage a battle on the electoral front, the Congress must first field a robust state-level team. Congress President Godiyal is tirelessly touring the entire state, yet the absence of a dedicated team to execute organizational activities and strategies is keenly felt. The party High Command entrusted Ganesh Godiyal with the responsibility of State President for a second term in November 2025.
Prior to this, he had held the office of President from July 22, 2021, to April 10, 2022. Before Godiyal, Karan Mahara served as President; however, he too was unable to constitute a new team due to the lack of requisite approval from the High Command. A similar situation now confronts Godiyal as well. The list of names for the State Executive has already been forwarded by the State Congress unit to the national leadership. However, the wait for the official announcement of the team continues to lengthen.
The list of names for the State Executive has been submitted to the High Command, and the final decision regarding it rests with them. Until a new executive body is constituted, the previous executive continues to function. The High Command has assigned Pritam Singh and Harak Singh Rawat the responsibility for the party’s election campaign and management committee. All party leaders are currently working towards the collective goal of bringing the Congress back to power in 2027. Appointments for the posts of President at the district and block levels have already been completed. The PCC will be announced soon
