In view of Diwali and the upcoming festive season, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food adulteration and unhygienic conditions in Dehradun. Acting on the instructions of Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, a team led by Senior Food Safety Officer Ramesh Singh conducted surprise inspections in the Yamuna Colony area.
Key highlights of the action taken:
• Adies Bakery: Samples of hazelnut chocolate cake, cream, and ‘Pristine’ brand packaged food syrup were collected from this establishment, located on Chakrata Road, and sent to a laboratory for testing. During the inspection, it was found that water quality test reports and medical fitness certificates for the staff were missing.
• Legal action against Tamtara Cafe: Following the discovery of severe unhygienic conditions in the cafe’s kitchen and storage area—and the cafe’s failure to comply with directives to cease operations—the FDA has authorized the filing of a case in the ADM’s court under Sections 55 and 58.
The Commissioner has made it clear that any compromise with public health will not be tolerated, and strict legal action will be initiated if the sample test reports indicate that the products are substandard.
