The State Tax Department raided three big firms related to iron and steel in Laksar area of Haridwar division under a special campaign being run to stop tax evasion. During the action, GST evasion and huge irregularities in stock were detected. During the investigation itself, the department recovered a fine of Rs 2.10 crore from the firms. The department has seized the records of all the firms and started the investigation. This action was taken on the instructions of the Chief Minister’s strict anti-tax evasion policy and Commissioner State Tax Sonika. The complaints received revealed that many steel firms are showing very low or zero payments in their returns by taking advantage of illegal input tax credit. On this basis, the Commissioner directed Additional Commissioner PS Dungriyal, Joint Commissioner Sanjeev Solanki and Joint Commissioner Rajendra Lal Verma to form a special investigation team. After this, three teams were formed to investigate three firms of Laksar area. 30 officers jointly raided under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Deepak Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Manisha Saini and Deputy Commissioner Kartikeya Verma. During the survey, major discrepancies were found in the data of manufactured and raw materials in stock taking. Departmental officials have seized all the records under the GST Act-2017. After the investigation is completed, the tax demand will be determined and recovered
