Regarding the increasing crimes against women, the Uttarakhand State Women Congress workers organized a Rajbhawan siege program today under the leadership of State President Mrs. Jyoti Rautela.
Amid heavy rains, a large number of women Congress workers marched towards the Rajbhawan under the leadership of Women President Jyoti Rautela as per the pre-scheduled program. They were stopped by the police at the barricading at Hathi Badkala where a huge clash took place between the women Congress workers and the police over crossing the barricading and the police force present there in large numbers tried to stop the women Congress workers by pushing them, after which the women Congress workers sat on a dharna there itself from where the police arrested them and took them to the police line.
On this occasion, State Women Congress President Jyoti Rautela said that in the last three years, Uttarakhand has reached the top in crimes against women. There has been a huge increase in the incidents of murder, rape of innocents and heinous crimes related to women in the state. These incidents happening continuously in the state have hurt the dignity of women as well as the identity of the state and the pride of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been tarnished. Jyoti Rautela said that in the last three years, 1822 incidents of rape of women have happened and bodies of 318 unknown women have been found, out of which only 87 have been identified. She said that in the last 5 years, 10500 women went missing in the state of Uttarakhand, out of which only 767 women are still missing. The incidents of crime against women are increasing year after year in the state and 103947 cases of crime against women have been registered in three years. On an average, one rape and murder incident is happening every month in the state. The series that started with the Ankita Bhandari heinous murder in Uttarakhand state three years ago continued to increase and due to the involvement of people of the ruling party in the incidents of gang rape and murder, the police administration of the state is feeling helpless. An atmosphere of fear prevails in the state and the common people, especially women, are feeling unsafe. Women Congress workers have been constantly alerting the government about the incidents of atrocities against women in the state, but due to the involvement of BJP leaders in most of the incidents, the state government is not taking any action and is acting as a protector of the rapists.
Jyoti Rautela, while mentioning the incidents of crime against women in the last three years, said that the case of gang rape of her 13-year-old minor daughter in Haridwar is linked to BJP Mahila Morcha office bearer Anamika Sharma. She said that the way the audio of Anamika Sharma’s conversation on mobile phone while being in jail has gone viral, it seems that the jail administration is providing all kinds of comforts to Anamika Sharma, who is in jail for a heinous and despicable crime, it raises serious questions on the judicial system of the state and the functioning of the police administration. Strict legal action should have been taken against the guilty jail administration officials and personnel by investigating the audio of Anamika Sharma’s conversation on mobile from jail while she was in police custody, but no action has been taken so far and like Ankita Bhandari murder case, the criminals are being protected.
The state women president said that we are bringing the cases of crime against women to the notice of His Excellency the Governor through a memorandum and demanding his intervention, but the state government wants to stop such movements with the help of police. She said that the Mahila Congress will continue to struggle against the government’s policy of protecting criminals.
Many women Congress workers including state vice-president Najma Khan, Chandrakala Negi, state general secretary Pushpa Panwar, Poonam Singh, Anuradha Tiwari, Amrita Kaushal, Deepa Chauhan, Dimple, Sukanya, Shashi, Bhavna Sharma, Raj Bala, Savitri Devi, Rani, Manoj, Poonam, Sandhya, Annu, Rajkumari, Sheela Devi, Aashiya etc. were present in the program.
