Pithoragarh: Near Muwaani on Pithoragarh-Thal motor road, Max lost control and fell into a 150 feet deep ditch and ended up in a rain drain. Eight passengers died in the accident while six are in critical condition. Three girl students are also among the dead. All the dead and injured are from Bokta village. The accident has created a ruckus in the entire village.
On Tuesday evening at around 5 pm, Max left Muwaani town for Bokta village with passengers. About a kilometer ahead, near Bhandarigaon bridge, it suddenly lost control and fell into a rain drain about 150 feet below the road. In the accident, six people died on the spot while eight passengers were seriously injured. The vehicle was blown to pieces in the accident. As soon as the information of the accident was received, the villagers of Bokta descended into the ditch and started the rescue. After taking the eight injured out of the ditch and taking them to the road, they were taken to Muwaani hospital. Eight-year-old Simran and 40-year-old driver Narendra Singh died there. After this, six seriously injured were sent to the district hospital by ambulance. Diksha, wife of Pankaj Bora, who died in the accident, was a resident of Chandak in Pithoragarh. She had gone to her maternal home on Harela festival. All the other deceased are from Bokta village.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences on the Pithoragarh road accident and has announced an assistance of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The PMO wrote on the social media platform X quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘I am saddened by the loss of life and property due to the road accident in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this accident. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.’
At the same time, Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep grief over this accident and reposted the PMO’s post and wrote on x, ‘The condolences expressed by PM Modi on the Pithoragarh road accident and the financial assistance provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will give strength to the bereaved family in this difficult time. The state government will also provide assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Our government stands firmly with the families of the deceased and is committed to provide all possible assistance to the injured.’
