Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court heard a PIL filed for holding the Panchayat elections being conducted by the State Election Commission in 12 districts of the state after the month of August during the monsoon. After hearing the case, the court has asked the police department to submit a report. Hearing on the case will continue on Wednesday as well.
During the hearing, the Director General of Police and Secretary Panchayati Raj appeared in the High Court through video conferencing. They informed the court that the elections and Kanwar Mela are going on as per the system. The police administration has deployed 30 percent of the state’s force to conduct the Kanwar Mela smoothly. 10 percent of the force is deployed in the Chardham Yatra. The department has kept 10 percent of the force in reserve for the upcoming elections. The department has kept the force in reserve even if there is a riot during the elections and Kanwar.
Election Commission clarified the situation: The Election Commission said that the commission is not facing any difficulties in conducting the elections. As far as the Kanwar fair is concerned, Kanwariyas are coming here especially from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, UP and Delhi. The first batch of which will return before the first date of the election. The secretary also said that the elections in the districts affected by Kanwar are in the second phase.
Report will be presented in the court: DGP Uttarakhand informed the court that a case has been registered against those Kanwariyas who had misbehaved with shopkeepers, women and were playing DJ at excessive volume in the past days. On which the court said that the report should be presented in the court on Wednesday, July 16. The court has continued the hearing of the case on Wednesday as well.
This is the matter: Dr. Baijnath, a resident of Dehradun, has filed a PIL saying that the program of Panchayat elections is going on in the state right now. On the other hand, Kanwar Yatra, Chardham Yatra and rainy season are also going on. Administration, police and SDRF teams are engaged in flood relief in the state. In such a situation, conducting Panchayat elections is not free from danger.
They have prayed to the court that the date of Panchayat elections be announced in the month of August. On this, the court had asked both the officials to appear through video conferencing on Tuesday to guide the court to know the reality.
