Haridwar: Lord Shiva’s favorite month i.e. Sawan has started. In such a situation, the crowd of Kanwariyas has started gathering to take Gangajal. Kanwariyas take a dip before filling Gangajal, but a little carelessness during this time proves costly for them. Something similar was seen near Bat Island and Prem Nagar Ashram Ghat. Here some Kanwariyas got swept away while bathing in Ganga, but SDRF jawans saved them.
Let us tell you that Kanwariyas take a bath in Ganga before lifting the Kanwar. It is often seen that Kanwariyas are not able to estimate the water level or depth of Ganga correctly. Due to which they become victims of accidents. In view of which, SDRF, Water Police, PAC jawans are deployed on the ghats by the Haridwar District Administration, who keep an eye on such incidents.
3 Kanwariyas’ lives saved near Bat Island: The first incident is near Bat Island. Here this morning, 3 Kanwariyas were swept away by the water current while bathing in the Ganges. The SDRF team deployed on the spot took immediate action and saved all three by jumping into the Ganges. It is being told that the Kanwariyas are residents of Rohini, Delhi.
Life of drowning youth saved from Prem Nagar Ashram Ghat: The second incident is of Prem Nagar Ashram Ghat. During duty here, the deep diving team of SDRF saw a devotee drowning in the Ganges at the ghat. On which SDRF rescuer constable Naveen Kumar and constable Sagar Kumar showed promptness and without wasting any time, reached the youth by getting into the deep water and saved him.
Lives of more than 250 Kanwariyas saved in the year 2024: At the same time, a youth resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh has been rescued safely. It is worth noting that under Kanwar Mela 2025, SDRF personnel have been deployed at various places. Last year also, SDRF had saved more than 250 Kanwariyas from drowning in the Ganges.
