Adopting a strict stance against illegal commercial construction, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) sealed a hotel in Mussoorie. The Authority’s team took this action after finding violations of the approved building plan and construction norms at ‘Hotel Atithi’ on Library Road, which is operated by Devendra Agarwal. Upon visiting the site, the team sealed the hotel’s illegal basement and 12 rooms.
The MDDA clarified that unplanned construction in a sensitive mountain region like Mussoorie adversely affects the environment, traffic, parking, and drainage systems—issues that will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated that, in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, planned development and strict adherence to regulations are being enforced. Meanwhile, Authority Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia mentioned that continuous monitoring of the area would be maintained. The Authority has appealed to building owners not to undertake any construction work without obtaining plan approval or in deviation from the approved building plan.
