In line with the announcement made by Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a site inspection for a drain reconstruction project worth approximately ₹14.25 crore, aimed at providing a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem in the Shastri Nagar-Seemadwar area of Dehradun.
The project proposes the construction of a 2,160-meter-long RCC barrel drain, which will strengthen the area’s drainage system. The District Magistrate stated that the project would be finalized based on suggestions from local residents and public representatives to ensure a permanent resolution to the waterlogging issue.
During the inspection, an instance of unauthorized road cutting in the same area came to light. Upon finding a violation of the regulations enforced during the monsoon season, the District Magistrate immediately halted the road-cutting work and seized the machinery being used at the site. He issued instructions to initiate departmental action against the responsible officials and ordered the immediate repair of the damaged road.
The District Magistrate made it clear that any negligence or disregard for rules regarding public interest works would not be tolerated. Senior officials from the Irrigation Department and the SDM (Sadar) were present during the inspection.
