On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a lake beautification campaign in Bhimtal, Nainital district. During the event, he planted a Bougainvillea sapling in honor of his mother, Smt. Bisna Devi, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign.
The Chief Minister stated that the life and culture of Uttarakhand are deeply intertwined with nature. Highlighting the conservation of Nainital’s world-famous lakes as a government priority, he mentioned that the Bhimtal lake is being beautified by planting Bougainvillea along its banks. He urged the public to plant as many saplings as possible during the monsoon, conserve water sources, and reduce the use of plastic.
Urban Development Minister Ram Singh Kaida and administrative officials also planted saplings in memory of their mothers during the event. Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat, District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal, Chief Conservator of Forests Tejaswini Arvind Patil, and other officials actively participated in the campaign. This initiative represents a novel effort to foster a collective commitment towards the environment and promote the message of nature conservation.
